DOG TRAINING PROGRAMS

WE TRAIN ALL BREEDS

TRAINING

The training courses I offer are designed to help you build a healthy and happy relationship between you and you new or current family member.

I take great pride in the training I have to offer. Helping my customers build the right foundation in obedience, health, the right training gear and proper nutrition is crucial when creating the dog you want.

It is necessary that I demonstrate all techniques and nutritional item with our pets. With so many bad techniques and gimmicks, it is imperative that my customers understand right from wrong.

What you create today, you will have to live with tomorrow. It is important that I train the family for the dog.

My training techniques help build the right foundation between the handler and dog. I do not use food, or compulsive training techniques. I educate the dog owner with the handler’s skills and tools necessary to meet every need without stress. My foundation teaches your dog to stay close to you along with building a bond and confidence. The techniques teach your dog when to go to work and when he/she is done working while having fun.

I offer multiple classes for all training levels and needs. All dogs that enter my training programs are “temperament tested” to ensure you and your pet utilize the correct system.

I will not trick you with so called "quick fix" training methods or speed training. It took a long time to create the behavior and will take time to permanently correct it. Training is work and the reward is a BALANCE BETWEEN OWNER AND DOG.

Normally I do not go to the pet owner's home to evaluate or train their dog. I have found that there are too many unplanned distractions in the home. All phases of my initial training plan for distractions in a controlled manner. This method insures that we can address the controlled distractions. Training is supposed to be fun. Having a stranger handle a dog on its property often puts the dog in avoidance or defense. Neither situation is fun for the dog. This is similar to me coming to your home and taking over your children. This puts a big question mark in the dogs mind adding more confusion. For the best results, go to your trainer’s facility. I will visit your home when your dog is familiar we me and has an understanding of what is expected. We revisit the techniques and show you how clear your dog can be.

Most of the issues you are having are related to how you are raising your dog in the home. They are not related to the home. If I moved you and your dog to a new location, you will have the same problems as the dog adapts to the new environment.

If you are sick, you go to the doctors where they have the equipment to figure out what is wrong and the path to getting healthy. This is no different for your dog. I have the equipment needed to help retrain your dog at my facility.

Behavioral issues are different from Obedience Training. Don’t waste your money on so called fast fixes for problems that have been building in your dog for a long period of time. Training is work. When performed correctly, it is worth the effort. Obedience is for human control and does not resolve behavioral issues. Many trainers will teach your dog obedience work to try and fix or mask issues with your dog. When that does not work they will use a shock collar and shock your dog every time your dog does something wrong. This is not the correct way to perform behavior modification. I tech your dog how to be a dog and tech you how to connect to your dog. I tech your dog how to handle and release stress.

Don’t determine your pet’s future by the price of a class. It is important to speak with the trainer before you invest your hard earned money. Develop your own comfort zone for how that trainer will be handling your dog. Many of my client’s have gone to a training class based on the price. At the end of the course they still had many issues and didn't understand why. Many of the dogs I retrained have attended several types training coursed, ranging from clicker, food, and shock collar. They made the mistake of judging the trainer based on price. Although budgeting is a factor don’t make it the sole reason you use a trainer. It’s may cost you more in the long run.

Below is a list of the training I offer. You can scroll down or click on the topic for a detailed description. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions:

PUPPY PROGRAM (PUPPY KINDERGARTEN)

Raising your puppy the right way starts as soon as you bring him/her home. My Puppy Kindergarten Program is a private program, which is done at my facility. Your family and puppy will attend this course. I may visit your home mid class to apply what we cover in the program.

USA K9's Puppy Program is designed to help pet owners start a foundation with their dogs as well as confidence building, house breaking tips, recall, chewing behaviors, jumping, proper correction techniques, how to approach your new puppy, socializing your dog with people, other dogs, and nutrition.

I do not hold treats over the dog asking them to sit or down. That is bribing and obedience. The goal in this program is to continue mothers job and teach the dog how to be a dog. This includes mental and physical balance. Obedience is human control. Dogs don’t ask each other to sit or down. If the dog is raised properly, you should see the dog performing those behaviors as it would for another dog. Most trainers don’t understand this. They spend their time teaching 5 to 10 dog in class. The results are dogs pulling and barking in class. Some dogs are asked not to return to the advanced classes because they are aggressive or misbehaved. The trainer should have addressed in the puppy class. Many of these dogs end up in our Foundation/Behavior Modification Program where the owners learn how to connect to the dog the way another dog does.

I teach you how to raise your dog for your environment. Having a group of dogs at this age is to much distraction for the dog and owner.

USA K9’s Puppy Program is for puppies 8 to 12 weeks old. The Program is a 4-session private program that meets for 1 hour for 4 weeks.

ADVANCED PUPPY PROGRAM
USA K9's Advanced Puppy Program is designed to help dog owners continue the foundation and other skills started in the puppy program. As your dog matures, we teach walking movements and light obedience. Confidence building and stress management through exercise is added to help create mental and physical balance.

USA K9’s Puppy Program is a 6-session private program that meets for 1 hour a week

FOUNDATION & BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION PROGRAM
Behavior issues do not happen overnight. They usually start with something that handlers view as ok, cute or bad trining advice. The issues grow in time and are not noticed until something drastic happens. Not having clarity and bad handler skill between the dog and owner can create nervous, skittish, and out of control dogs along with different types of aggression.

My Foundation Behavior Modification program is a 6 session private program that meets one hour a week. Handlers are tough how rebuild the foundation and establish dominance without fighting the dog. This program concentrates on rebuilding the dogs and handlers mind to understand whom the pack leaders are while building a bond. We focus on basic handler skills to help revert unwanted behaviors. After establishing clarity in the dog, we revisit the issues that were created by the owners.

Don’t waste your money on so called fast fixes for problems that have been building in your dog for a long period of time. Training is work. When performed correctly, it is worth the effort.

Putting a shock collar on your dog and shocking it everytime it does something wrong is not behavior modification. This can make the problems worse, burn holes in the dogs neck and create new unwanted behaviors.

ON-LEASH OBEDIENCE PROGRAM
USA K9’s On-Leash Obedience Program is a 6 session private program that meets for one hour a week. Each lesson consists of you, your dog, and your trainer. I will set the foundation in your dog. Explanations will be given after the foundation is set.

The program is designed to teach your dog a series of commands while giving you a mini handler’s course. The goal is to have my clients gain the knowledge and skills to continue the foundation and obedience that will lead to an obedient pet without creating stress in their dog. The request between you and your dog will be made clear and will help form a partnership and trust.

Your dog is given the opportunity to think and make decisions based on praise and simple corrections. At the discretion of the trainer, students will be given the opportunity to work their dog along side my dogs for advanced distractions.

ON-LEASH OBEDIENCE CGC/TDI PROGRAM
USA K9's On-Leash Obedience Program is my 6 week On-leash obedience program which has been specifically modified to help handlers gain the knowledge and handler skill to pass the CGC and or TDI test.

The Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs that pass the required CGC test may receive a CGC certificate from the American Kennel Club.

Therapy Dogs International, Inc. (TDI) is a volunteer group organized to provide qualified handlers and their therapy dogs for visitations to institutions, facilities, and any other place where therapy dogs are needed. TDI is a non-profit organization. There is no charge for visitations. All funds are derived from associate membership dues. Donations or bequests are welcome. The primary objective of the TDI dog and handler is to provide comfort and companionship by sharing the dog with the patients in hospitals, nursing homes and other institutions and wherever else the therapy dog is needed. This is done in a way that increases emotional well being, promotes healing, and improves the quality of life for the people being visited and the staff that cares for these people.

30 DAY IN HOME BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION AND OBEDIENCE PROGRAM
USA K9’s Behavior Modification Program enables your dog to live at my facility for 30 days. Your dog will be taken through our Foundation/Behavior Modification Program and worked in different indoor and outdoor environments. I will access the behavior of the dog and make the necessary modifications to correct unwanted behavior by education. This program works well with individuals that have a busy schedule and don’t want their dog growing up to be unmanageable, for dogs that are currently unmanageable, or dogs with social issues. Dogs entering this program must be a minimum of 4 months old. The program will be followed up with our On-Leash Obedience Program. How much obedience training your dog will receive will depend the severity of the social and genetic issues they have.

It’s important to know your dog needs a minimum of one week to get acclimated to its new environment. Programs that are under 3 weeks usually involve cruel and unnecessary training techniques. Shocking, kicking, and other forms of abuse are used to force dogs to submit or change. This can drive dogs to be overly submissive and or become overly aggressive.

This is NOT how we do our behavior modification. We give your dog time to adjust to its new environment. Your dog is educated and given the opportunity to think. Your dog will be taught in a way that is more natural him /her.

“We don’t fight your dog, we educate your dog.”

DOG FITNESS UNDERWATER TREADMILL & DOG TREADMILL PROGRAM
There is no prerequisite for this program. All breeds are welcome. This program is a 6 session private program that meets for 1 hour per session. Each private lesson consists of you, your dog, and your trainer. Actual run time will depend on your dog. Our program allows for an introduction to the Underwater Treadmill and Dog Treadmill, warm up, run time, cool down dry off time.

My Dog Fitness Program is designed for dogs of all ages.

DOG UNDERWATER TREADMILL

Dog Fitness - Dog Swimming - Dog Exercising - Dog Wellness - Dog Weight Management - Dog Stress Management

Dog underwater treadmilling exercising is an extremely effective method of exercise for small, medium, large, and extra large dogs. It is also highly affective in our Behavior Modification Program where dogs learn stress management and the natural releases of stress through exercise.

Most dog owners exercise their dogs the wrong way. Playing fetch is a game that should be kept within 10 to 20 feet. Manny dog owners throw balls and other toys 30 to over 100 feet away. These items may turn 90 degrees when contacting the ground. The dogs chasing the toys acquire great speed and often power slide, trip, tumble, and dramatically turn creating unnatural body alignments. The movement created by fetch have cause canine

• Stomach Bloating leading to death
• Tendon Ruptures
• ACL Injuries
• Paw and Leg Spraining
• Hip Issues
• Arthritis
• Lower Spine Myopathy
• Pinch Nerves

Power Fetching as I call it puts a high amount of stress and forced lateral movements on a dogs hips and lower spine. As the dog gets older, canine myopathy and arthritis sets in creating a pinch nerve and stiff movements. The dog is now left with a pinch nerve disrupting the dog’s gate for the rest of its life.

K9 Fitness - K9 Swimming - K9 Exercising - K9 Wellness - K9 Weight Management - K9 Stress Management

Our Dog Fitness Underwater Treadmill & Dog Treadmill Program allows us to work dogs in our heated water treadmill.

• Underwater treadmilling dog exercising is an extremely effective method of exercise for small, medium, large, and extra large dogs.
• The buoyancy provided by water lessens the weight-bearing load on the dog’s limbs and preserves the dog’s skeletal structure.
• The applied pressure from water on a dogs limbs improve circulation and decrease inflammation that long distance running and fetching causes.
• Water temperature can be changed to help the animal relax and further stimulate muscles and circulation.
• The water walking greatly improves the dogs muscle mass and cardio.

Muscle conditioning in water is one of the best ways to effective build muscle mass, cardiovascular strength and endurance.

We are able to heat the water in our Underwater treadmilling to 92-96 degrees. This reduces stress, pain, inflammation, stiffness, tension, and swelling that long distance running, fetch and hard dog playing can create.

Swimming your dog in water is a great exercise. Walking your dog in water exceed swimming as an exercise.

In addition, our Dog Fitness Program is used …
• in general conditioning programs
• to improve cardiovascular health
• to improve weight management for over weight dogs
• to help prevent injuries
• to provide intensive conditioning for sports dogs
• to provide intensive conditioning for working dogs
• to create high natural resistance
• to strengthen muscles
• as an low impact and highly effective workout
• to promote greater flexibility and balance
• to increased range of motion
• to reduce and release stress from aggressive and nervous dogs
• as stress management
• to prevent pain and stiffness that other exercises cause
• as a cross training or general wellness activitie
• in getting an edge over the competition for show season
• in build muscle and endurance for agility competitions
• in build muscle and endurance personal protection dogs
• in build muscle and endurance for Police Dogs
• on raining days
• when its too cold for human or dog to exercise
• when its too Hot for human or dog to exercise
• when its too muddy or icy outside for safe, effective exercise
• when your swimming pool is closed
• when you do not have a swimming pool

Our Dog Underwater treadmill is our state of the art, treadmill which offers a highly aerobic workout that is also low impact. The chamber can be filled to different levels to accommodate various size dogs from the tiny tea cup Chihuahua to a stately Mastiff or Great Dane!

Benefits of underwater exercise:

Buoyancy -this property unloads the joints anywhere from 9% at the hock, 15% at the stifle or 62% at the hip. This puts less stress on the joints and requires less muscle strength to support the body. A vest can help further with support of comfort.

Hydrostatic pressure - this is the pressure exerted on the dog's body by water. The pressure helps decrease edema (swelling) in the tissues and joints and enhances circulation. It also helps to decrease pain by decreasing the hypersensitivity of the pain receptors.

Viscosity & Resistance - this strengthens the muscles and increases cardiovascular fitness. Increasing the speed of the belt (walking speed) enhances this effect. Studies on humans have shown greater oxygen uptake (27-34%) in water exercise. Jets can further increase the resistance.

Water temperature - warm water increases circulation, increases joint flexibility and decreases pain. Cool water increases the cardiovascular demand of the exercise and therefor better conditions your younger dog or athlete.

DOG TREADMILL

Most dog owner’s think fetch is a great game to play with their dog. Throwing a ball as for as possible so the dog can get as much speed as possible is not a great way to exercise your dog. Consider your dog living in the wild. The wild dog does not run and power slide. The wild dog does not perform 90 degree turns at full speed. The rapid sharp turns a ball or toy produce will cause a dog to power slide. These movements can lead to lacerations on the dog’s hocks, tearing and rupturing their Achilles tendon, hip and joint injuries, tearing or rupture a dog’s knee. Cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) injuries are common from playing fetch. The cranial cruciate ligament is commonly equated to the ACL in humans.

My dog treadmill allows your dog to move in its natural gate. Walking, trotting, and full out runs are performed safely. The movement and speed are controlled by your dog. There are no electronics on this treadmill. Your dog is the motor. Your dog can run the distance without being limited by a fence, weather, or human companion.

Our dog treadmill is VERY different from your home treadmill. Many of my clients try to put their dog on a home treadmill. The dog stops and gets ejected. When the dog wants to slow down, they cannot. They are often ejected and become completely frightened by the treadmill. What should be a fun exercise becomes a negative experience for the dog. The clients that are successful in getting their dog on the treadmill are not successful in getting the dog to run for more that a few minuets. I have successfully run dogs that have failed on human treadmills.

Dogs that run on our treadmill are proven to gain confidence, release stress, release excess energy, become mentally exhausted, physically exhausted, build muscle, and increase their cardio stamina.
Dogs are often limited by our two legs, hot weather, cold weather and rain. We have solved this problem. You dog will be exercising indoors with AC or Heat.

This technology has proven to be so successful for dogs. Military K9, Police K9, Sport Dogs, Hunting Dogs, and Show Dogs are now using dog treadmills to increase there dogs mental and physical fitness.

WE TRAIN ALL BREEDS

PERSONAL PROTECTION
As in all of our phases of training, teaching your young dogs personal protection skills are extremely important. Our dogs are not pressured into biting. I do not put dogs into defense or chain and whip them to get them to bite the agitator. I teach with positive ego building techniques. I teach the dog to play with the helper and become the dog’s friend. Many young dogs will play with their owners and not with a helper. Most owners teach them from a young age not to bite someone. Now we expect this same dog to protect us. I teach the dog to become comfortable playing the protection game with an outsider. This drive will turn your young dog into a personal protection dog that is safe and happy with everyone. I teach a very important command for all our protection dogs. “Friend” The dog is no longer allowed to bite and will accept affection.

Personal Protection Programs are tailored to your needs.

  • Home & Business Security
  • Home Protection
  • Business Protection
  • Vehicle Protection

What is a Personal Protection Dog?

A personal protection dog should be a family pet with a job. This dog should not be some out of control aggressive dog. I do not teach the dog to be aggressive and bite anything. The goal for our personal protection dog is to create a dog that is friendly with people, other dogs, and the environment around it. I want this dog to remain a family pet that understands it has a job to perform upon request from its handler.

Guard Dog vs Protection Dog?

A guard dog is not a protection dog. Most guard dogs are out of control dogs that think they own the property. This is a dominant dog that needs training. Other guard dogs simply alert you to someone within range of the home. Every dog that will perform true protection work has to learn how to engage the bay guy and handle the stress of the fight. The dog must learn how to bite appropriately, handle hurdles, and obstacles that may get thrown its way. The dog needs to stop on command and understand that the same person can be a friend on command.

Genetics?

I can’t tell you how many times I heard “my dog will protect me”. He comes from great lines and knows what to do. He does natural protection. I offer these people this challenge. Put $500 on your kitchen table or in your bedroom. Ill come into your home grab you and the $500. If you dog protects you, you get the training session for free and a second free training session. If I get out without the dog biting, I keep the $500 for my time. None of these people have taken the challenge.
Protection is a taught behavior.

You could have the best genetics in the world. You still have to teach the dog how to perform the job. Any fighter or body guard must learn skills that will help them think clear and survive in a high adrenalin situation. Without this training, the success rate is drastically reduced. The end result is failure. Training is important to any specific skill we want to obtain.

Gas, taxes, and just about everything else is getting more expensive. Jobs are lost every day. This is leading to a rise in crime. It is proven that homes with dogs are less likely to get robbed. A dog with protection training can be the difference of you and your family getting to your phone, weapon or a safe place.

PERSONAL PROTECTION EVALUATIONS
Regardless of breed and pedigree, not all dogs will perform this work. Therefore I request you have your dog evaluated before entering this program. Properly trained protection dogs have a solid unchanging personality. Your dog will become a safe and effective security partner for your home and family. This is a working evaluation. You and your dog will be given instructions.

INTRODUCTION TO DEVELOPING A PERSONAL PROTECTION DOG.
This is a developmental training program designed to work a young dogs prey/play mode. I introduce them to the techniques that develop a safe and pleasurable personal protection dog. This course is offered to puppies that are approximately 6 months of age and young adult dogs.

6 session private course that meets one hour a week.

PERSONAL PROTECTION LEVEL 1
Level 1 starts the foundation of building your dog for protection work. The owner and dog will attend a 12 session class that meets for 1 hour. The owner will learn safety and how to handle a dog on leash. At the same time, I will build the dogs drive and teach them how to bite with confidence. The dogs are taught to guard, bite on command, handler aggression, and are taught an out command and friend command. This is a “real life situation” course. Dogs are taught to bite arms, legs, chest etc. The bad guy won’t bring or use a sleeve on your dog. Some dogs only bite when they see the training sleeve. You want to create a controlled dog that will bite anything any ware. This is not a sport type course. Although Schutzhund translates to protection dog, a Schutszhund dog is not a protection dog. Schutszhund is a sport and the training varies drastically. A criminal is not going to do a skip drive through your house when your dog bites him.

This course is split into two 6 sesson courses that meets once a week for duration of 1 hour. Added equipment is optional. I provide the necessary equipment for the protection work. You must have a solid obedience foundation. I will evaluate your dog for this training.

PERSONAL PROTECTION LEVEL 2
For Level 2 Protection, we cover Level 1 and continue working on distance apprehension; build the dog on bite suit, and performing searches for the agitator. I will work on protection scenarios and have the dog return to the owner, and out the dog before making the attack. Dogs will learn not to chase the agitator unless you command him to do so. Level 1 techniques will be enhanced to create a stronger protection dog. The dog will remain social to outsiders and work only when necessary. This is business for your dog, not personal. Dogs are turned on and off like a light switch.

The owner and dog will attend a 6 session course that meets for 1 hour. You must complete the Level 1 Personal Protection course to enter Level II.

PERSONAL PROTECTION LEVEL 3
At Level 3 Protection, we cover Level 1 and 2 continue working on distance apprehension, hidden sleeves, searches, protection scenarios and work more with the bite suit work. The added training techniques are in home invasion protection. The dogs will attack intruders in your home and stay in your house to protect you and your family. This is an extensive course developed for the home owner who wants the added security only a well bred and well trained dog can provide. I will come to your home and stage a break in to test the dog’s reaction to an intruder. Your dog will remain safe with others and still protect you when needed.

The owner and dog will attend a 6-session class that meets for approximately 1 hour. You must complete the Level 1and 2 Protection course to enter Level 3.

PROTECTION VIDEO
All of the dogs in our protection classes and videos are social with people and other dogs. We teach the dogs when to go to work, and when they are done working. You can find more photos of Xano with children and other dogs in our gallery’s and the HVK9 web site.

The dogs you are viewing are trained for protection, not Schutzhund sport. Schutzhund dogs are not protection dogs. We teach our protection dogs to target several body parts not equipment.
